Cristiano Ronaldo Dos Santos Aveiro, also known as Cristiano Ronaldo, is a Portuguese professional football player who plays forward for Premier League club Manchester United and captains the Portugal national team. He was born on February 5, 1985. Ronaldo is recognized as one of the best players of all time and has earned the most European player honors with four European Golden Shoes and five Ballon d'Or titles. In his career, he has won 32 trophies, including the UEFA European Championship, five UEFA Champions Leagues, and seven league championships. Ronaldo holds the marks for the most appearances (183), goals (140), and assists (42) in the Champions League, goals in the European Championship (14), international goals (117), and appearances by a European in international competition (191). He is one of the select few athletes with more than 1,100 professional appearances under his belt and more than 800 official senior goals for club and country.
At the age of 17, Ronaldo began his professional career with Sporting CP in 2002. A year later, he joined Manchester United. After winning the FA Cup in his debut campaign, he went on to win three consecutive Premier League championships in 2006–07, 2007–08, and 2008–09. Ronaldo assisted United in winning the UEFA Champions League in 2007–2008. He won his first Ballon d'Or and first FIFA Club World Cup in 2008-09, both in December. Ronaldo once held the record for being the most expensive player in the history of professional football after switching from Manchester United to Real Madrid for over £80 million in July 2009.
He won the 2010–11 Copa del Rey, his first trophy with Real Madrid, in 2011. He earned his first La Liga championship with the team the following season, the 2011–12 La Liga. He won the Supercopa de Espaa during the 2012–13 campaign. He won his second Ballon d'Or the next season, the 2013–14 campaign. Then, with a record 17 goals, he won the Copa del Rey and his second Champions League. Ronaldo won the Ballon d'Or once more in December 2014, the same month he also won his second FIFA Club World Cup. In the 2016 Champions League final against Atlético Madrid, Ronaldo converted the go-ahead penalty to win his third title. The following year, he won his fourth Ballon d'Or, his second La Liga championship, another Champions League, and his second Club World Cup for the first time in five years. Ronaldo played his final season with Real Madrid in 2017–18, during which he earned his fifth Ballon d'Or, fifth Champions League, and two goals against Juventus in the championship game. He became the first player to win the UEFA Champions League five times with his third successive Champions League victory. In July 2018, he will subsequently join Juventus. Ronaldo left the team as Real Madrid's all-time leading scorer and the only player in La Liga history to have scored 30 or more goals in each of the previous six seasons.
